#Campervan #Ireland #Vanlife #WildCamping #wildatlanticway #waw As we lay asleep at Rosscarbery Pier Ireland we get attacked in our campervan. It is a moment in time that we all fear and worry about. In this episode having found a place where we eventually stayed for 2 nights on a park4night location we are awoken to an attack on the van. See our reaction, emotion and then followed by rationalisation of the event and how we move on. Our names our Stew & Jane and along with ‘Harry’ our Auto Campers Ford Custom Transit campervan we are Getaway Geese, we record our adventures as we enjoy the freedom of vanlife. We hope our videos inform and maybe inspire you to vanlife whether that be permanent living or casual trips. 1. Great analysis and summary folks. It was all a bit dramatic at the time – understandably so given the context – and it’s great that you put it in perspective. The need for lighting – mounted and to hand – is a good lesson learned. Also it’s good to know how loud the impact of a soft object like an egg or soft fruit is as opposed to a rock or other hard object impact. How fast they drove away tells you what type you were dealing with !

    1. Thanks for watching and commenting – I think irrelevant of what it was the mere fact of someone invading your space late at night is obviously unnerving

    2. Thanks Tommy ☺️. Yes they were off like a shot 🙄 like you ,so many comments have mentioned lights which is now a must have on our next trip 👍 and also our biggest mistake – not parking in the right direction 🤦‍♀️ something we didnt even do after this event. We are definitely going into our next trip better prepared im glad to say after all the helpful advice. Jane ☺️

  2. so sorry to hear about your episode with idiots , its the one thing that worries me doing van life on my own , take care and merry christmas to you both xx

    1. Wee we ok it’s an infrequent occurrence and 4 years and this was the first incident and ultimately minor – I think if you approach something could happen then when it does it won’t be so big

    2. Thanks for watching Peter. Its taken us many years to feel more at ease with camping in remote places. So while not serious it certainly threw us a bit 🤦‍♀️ but we know that this is not the norm. Happy travels ☺️ jane

    1. This is so true. I like to think its been a gentle introduction to Aholes ! 🤦‍♀️ and maybe next time wont be such a shock 🤷‍♀️ thanks for watching. Jane

  3. The little blighters. It might’ve only been an egg but if it had been me I’d have been spooked for sure! Idiots (them not you 😆). Take care.

    1. Hi Sue ! Thats exactly what stew said after the event “what if this was Sue” We all have to keep in mind that these things are rare thank god and keep on doing what we love dont we. Take care. Jane 🥰

    2. @GetawayGeese Absolutely we do. We can only take precautions and be aware but after that we must keep doing what we love and not let cretins dictate otherwise. Take care 😊

    1. Hi there. Yes we were very lucky. Once we had made sense of it after the initial fright we could put it in perspective and carry on. Thanks for watching. Jane

  4. I haven’t read any other comments so it’s probably been mentioned… as a safety measure I always park facing the direction of potential escape route.. in case speed is of the essence.. anyways.. hope eggy gate doesn’t restrict your joy of van life…regards…

    1. Thanks and yes I need to change my parking habit where possible band think of driving off – also looking at a route to get out

  5. I’m sorry you went through that and happy your safe. Im happy you didn’t go out. First time on channel and you both seem like wonderful people. Your video has beautiful coverage, Thank you and hope that never happens again💕

    1. Many thanks for watching this is a bit of a different video as in the main we capture the journey, the history and our Vanlife so I hope you enjoy our other videos which over the 4 years we hope has got better especially this Irish series

I had the best years of growing up camping and Van living I was Raised at the age of “8 to 16” EVERY YEAR MY DAD WOULD GIVE US GENUINE SUPPORT IN LIFE SKILLS BY TAKING US FOR (2 MONTH’S) ON THE ROAD’S ALL OVER (WALES AND SCOTLAND).
THE ENTIRE SUMMER HOLIDAYS BACK IN THE LATE 80’S WAS VERY POPULAR EVERY YEAR RIGHT UP TO LATE 90’S I SEE THEM TODAY AS THE GOLDEN YEARS OF MY UP BRINGING HAVING AN OUTDOORS LIFE FOR 2 MONTH’S EVERY YEAR ALLWAYS SOMTHING TO DO AS THERE WAS (ZERO PHONES ) OR “TV” BACK THEN IT WAS FAMILY ( BOARD GAMES) AND READING BOOK’S.

ONCE THE OLD OIL FILTER WAS REMOVED THE NEW ONE WOULD BE FILLED UP WITH NEW FRESH 40/10 WATT OIL ONCE ALL THE OLD OIL WAS OUT AND NEW OIL IN WE WOULD ALL HELP CHECK THE BRAKES AND TYRES WHILE MY DAD WOULD BE TAKING THE PLUGS AND AIRFILTER ONCE ALL THIS WAS DONE WE WOULD LIFT THE ENGINE INTO PLACE AND LOWER THE VAN DOWN SLOWLY TILL ALL MOUNTS WAS LINED UP AND IT WOULD NOT STRIP THE TREADS .
BOLT EVEYTHING BACK TOGETHER INCLUDED WAS THE FAN BELT AND ULTINATOR BELT THEN A NEW BATTERY WAS PUT BACK INTOTHE VAN AS THE LEISURE BATTRYS WAS CHARGED IN THE HOUSE PROPERLY BEFOR WE PUT IT BACK INTO THE VAN AND WIERED IT INTO THE ENGINE WHICH WOULD CHARGE IT FROM THE TOWING HITCH LIKE TODAYS TODAYS BATTERY POWERED CAR.

ANYWAY IM SO MUCH WISH UOU BOTH ALL YHE BEST AND A MERRY CHTISTMASS

    1. What a fantastic memory and I can tell you look back on it fondly and we wish only to capture those moments. In the 4 years since we bought Harry we have had nothing but memories and stories like you and we are finally living the dream we hoped whenever we can get out there. This memory is a minor blip but also it’s something we still look back on together – many thanks for the watch but also taking time to tell us your memories and how you felt as s child

  7. Not a nice situation, but come on…”Attacked”? It’s a shame so many decent folk feel they have to title their videos with clickbait “Shocker!” headlines to gain views. Puts me right off watching these kind of videos and, unfortunately, your content.

    1. Sorry about that we spent sometime debating the title ….. if you watch our videos we genuinely tell our story which is what happened here. At 11pm in the pitch black when an object one we didn’t know was thrown and Jane also felt the van move we felt the van at that time was attacked and our space invaded. You will hear that Jane was a little anxious at the time as we were did orientated – if you felt recieved we apologise but in that moment it’s how we felt

    2. @GetawayGeese That’s fair enough and, thanks for the reply. That’s my whole point, your videos are passionate, descriptive and interesting. Also, I imagine that the editing is done some time after the (horrible) event.
Just not needed, in my opinion. Cheers.

    3. Just what stew says really. Its taken us 4 years to feel more at ease with parking remotely. Especially stew. Being woken up during the night to a car pulling up at speed- voices-a commotion -van moving-(they either pushed it or pushed each other into it) and a thud (surprisingly loud for an egg) at that time it wasnt just “not nice” it was terrifying. Afterwards we could put in perspective, but at the time my heart was pounding. I now wonder if anything else happened (fingers crossed it doesn’t) that we’d be abit more chilled about it having had something happen to us in the dead of night. Might of been nothing to the idiots that did it but it scared the heebie jeebies out of us. Jane ☺️

    1. We wouldn’t be able to carry one legally, gun laws are strict on what you can have and how you store them

      Thanks for watching

    2. I am not sure but suspect if you have a license it has to be securely stowed away but I could be wrong and don’t believe you could use for self defence – not that I would carry one though even if I could

  8. Stumbled across your channel checking out the RV life on the road (now subscribed 😊). This was very scary. Please know that I mean no disrespect at all and I’m in the US, so obviously many things are different here. Do you not have a firearm of any kind? I’m genuinely curious because the world has gotten quite scary compared to even 20 years ago. My husband and I both carry pretty much everywhere we go when allowed, but especially when we’re out camping and more specific, boondocking. I was just curious, and if you don’t believe in them, totally your right. I was just wondering because obviously you’re out in the middle of nowhere, I just wondered if the thought of say even a wild animal is a concern? I would feel so vulnerable, even from a wild animal. Sorry, I watched the one video of the guy killed by a bear in his camper, and he did shoot the bear but wasn’t a lethal hit! Poor guy! I need to watch some more of your videos so I know a little more about you guys and your ventures! So glad you’re safe and all ended well! Safe travels! (I later finished watching most of this video and seen about the kids and eggs. How sad they have nothing better to do than scare people and be little chits! Also that you’re in Ireland! I imagine that changes things a bit I’m sure. I do agree with the one guy about always pointing towards your way to exit. It’s sad we have to be on guard but the world has gotten a little darker than it used to be. Or maybe we just hear about it more because of the internet lol.) We have arlo cameras mounted on all 4 corners so we can see what’s going on outside our camper via an app on our phones. It also has like a ‘panic’ mode where a big spot light (it’s blinding lol) and it will flash and I believe there’s a siren as well but I’m not 100% about the siren. But they have been a tremendous help. They’re weatherproof, easy to mount/unmount. Rechargeable battery, that’s the only pain sometimes. But we ran a cord down and fastened it to the camper, so I use a battery pack to recharge them. A lot easier than taking them down every time to charge the batteries. Vosi has similar cameras too that I like better because you don’t have to subscribe to a monthly service, you can store video on a SD card versus their cloud. Arlo requires a paid subscription to record. Ridiculous! Be safe!

    1. First and most importantly thank you for watching and taking so much time to comment as we love the interaction

Gun laws are very different in the UK and Ireland so the right to carry a gun is very restricted to I think hunting but I maybe wrong

We don’t suffer from large wild animals like bears so not much of an issue … I could get chased by a goose I guess 😂

Interesting you only yesterday I was looking at Arlo security cameras

Whilst in the end it was just an egg and only first time in 4 years so we generally feel safe to be honest

The main thing is we dealt with it and moved in in our mind as we love to wild camp

    1. True. Just pathetic young adults ! Sure to them it was funny 😳 but it definitely wasnt to us at the time. Thanks for watching. Jane ☺️

  9. Sounds like a dare to me. Good it was nothing more serious. Love to get a campervan myself. I hitchhike alot and all the lifts I got none of them had a good thing to say about campervans, especially in Isle of Skye. Still wouldn’t put me off getting a campervan to be a step up from wild camping in my tent 😁. Just subscribed. Thanks

    1. I take my hat off to you for wild camping in a tent. Must be fantastic As much as I love the thought – Harry is as close as I can manage. Yes I agree with you regarding the dare. At the time it was frightening as we didn’t know what was happening but we soon put it in perspective. Yes it’s a shame that some campervanners spoil it for the rest of us as they show no respect 🙄. That said ive never been anywhere that welcomes campervan like ireland does. Thanks for watching and happy travels. Jane
